What is Jazz Opera?
Sunday, April 30, 2023
Performance by the Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble with special guests Roy Richardson and Sherry Wilson Butler
What is jazz opera? What does it sound like? Can opera and jazz co-exist? The Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble brings two musical genres together to explore and confront classic norms and stereotypes when the sounds of jazz and opera come together. The audience will hear excerpts from Warren Oree's jazz opera, "Never Back Down," which debuted in 2010 as well as pieces from his inaugural opera, "The Dream Tree," which premiered in 1997. The audience will be invited to participate in an interactive discussion.
